Tips #9 :: Do NOT use too many resources

Paradox of Choice

Have you ever been to a supermarket, where you were trying to buy toothpaste and about 15 different brands screamed for attention? May not be toothpaste, but surely something similar. That is a very common experience. We all know that all the toothpastes are the same, but when we see so many brands out there, we do not know how to begin choosing the right one!

This is known as the Paradox of choice. When we have too many choices for the same product, we do not feel comfortable making a choice, and worry about not being able to make the right choice. Our choice in such a case many times is to collect as many different brands/products as we can, so that we do not socially miss out on something. If we do this, our choices are based on fear and not what we need.

If you have 10 different brands of toothpaste, how are you going to use them? Most probably, 9 out of those 10 will not be used at all. Will your oral hygiene improve if you just own 10 different toothpastes without using them? You got the point! Right?

This very fear leads us to collect a lot of books/material/questions from various sources, without even validating their authenticity. Actually, even if some of the sources are authentic, they are extremely expensive. We, under the influence of information overload, do not wait to think if we really need these products and decide to go for them too. The same fear about toothpaste forces us to get too many resources here. Are we going to use them? Not really, and if at all you do, they will end up confusing you

How do you take control?

  1. You do not need so many books and so many questions from unverified sources.
  2. What you need is:
    1. Putting in some effort to read and understand how to manage projects effectively
    2. Understand and relate to the topics in the PMBOK® Guide and EPMA notes
    3. Understand the tasks defined in the ECO very clearly
  3. Solve the questions in the Question-Bank and mock tests as suggested by EPMA study plan
  4. Remember to use ONLY the PMBOK® Guide and EPMA notes

Only with these 4 points, more than 4k students have passed their PMP® Exam in their FIRST try.

If you want to be successful, follow somebody who has proved rather than going through so many relevant and unverified source on the internet
