(Eliminate the options obviously wrong, Solve all questions)
(Do Not Bother About “Non-scoring” Questions., Be The Project Manager In The Question)
In my last tip, I explained how you should look at the question. It was one of the key tips to understand the question and shortlist the answers.
Eliminate the options obviously wrong
Eliminating options that are not suitable will help you speed up answering the questions. I will suggest that actually you should eliminate obviously incorrect options immediately on reading the question.
You should take advantage of the strike-off option provided in the PMP® exam. It helps you focus on options that are suitable. Even if you want to mark a question for review, eliminating obviously wrong options will help you towards the end when you are reviewing. Usually you check the marked questions towards the end. Time is usually running out at such junctures. Eliminated options take one headache out of the way and help you focus on other options, saving you a lot of time
Solve ALL Questions
The PMP® Exam does not have negative marking on the questions. What should this mean to you?
If an exam has negative marking on questions, there is a risk in answering questions that you are not sure about. A few questions go wrong and it can push you down by reducing your marks. Especially, if your exam is a difficult one, it can make a whole lot of difference. But, fortunately, that is not the case. The PMP® exam considers only the questions answered correctly for scoring your exam. What does this mean again? For example, even if you have scored 10 questions wrong, you do not get negative marks for them. You may get zero, but that does not impact your score negatively in any way.
On the other hand, even if you feel that you do not know the answer to a question, I recommend that you mark the answer randomly. In many cases, you do not recollect, but your mind is aware of the answer. You could score a few marks this way. For the questions where you are sure that you do not know the answer, then also marking an option randomly will cause no harm. If luckily what you marked is the right answer, then you get (bonus!!) marks that are always welcome!
Remember, solve all questions even if you do not know the answer. It has no negative impact. If at all, you stand to benefit even if you do not know the answer!!
Keep on checking for important tips to pass the PMP® exam with confidence.
