Tips #7 :: Understand The Tasks

Tips #7 :: Understand The Tasks

The PMP Examination is based on certain tasks. The questions in the examination test if you can perform certain tasks.

What does that mean to you? Simply put, it means that the examination is not truly based on “remembering” any text from any book. Not even the PMBOK® Guide ! The questions just check if you can perform the tasks that should be performed by an effective project manager.

Now, who is that “Effective Project Manager”? An effective project manager is the one who understands his responsibilities and is capable of fulfilling those responsibilities by performing required tasks. He fulfils those responsibilities in alignment with the best practices and standards. It helps him close the projects effectively

Let us see take a task for example:

One of the tasks is “Manage Conflicts”. If a project manager is capable of managing stakeholder conflicts in project’s interest, that will surely help, isn’t it? The exam will test if you understand the importance of managing conflicts and understand how to manage them.

To answer these questions, more than a standard, what is important is your understanding and proficiency in performing the task.

In order to answer the questions, you need to show proficiency in performing the tasks. No amount of memorizing will do it, but understanding importance and knowing how to practically perform them will.

Read and understand all the tasks. Also, relate the PMBOK® Guide with these tasks and you are on your way to easily pass the examination
