21 Jun Tips #6 :: Connect to the topics
As I always say, the PMP® Exam tests your understanding and experience in how to manage projects in the most effective way. You need to understand and incorporate best practices in project management so that you can manage them effectively in practice. I cannot stress importance of connecting to the PMBOK® Guide enough
The exam is not different from practice. But, I’m aware that most of you do not feel the same about the PMBOK® Guide. You usually feel that the PMBOK® Guide is a big heavy book that uses terse language and it is very difficult as well as tiring to read. And, you also feel that it is not practically useful either, but trust me.. Reality is exactly opposite. Once you really understand the PMBOK® Guide, then you realize how useful it practically is. When you really understand different topics in the PMBOK® Guide with our examples during the training, you will realize that the PMBOK® Guide is what you really do or should be doing on your projects.
How will you use this fact for exam prep? Simple! Whenever you are reading or watching training-videos, think of some similar experience from your work life and write that down on EPMA Notes, (same chapter) in the margin. This will help you connect to the topic. Once you are connected to the topic, you will be able to answer questions on the same.
